PREACHING AT FOX ISLAND UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
Justice McCartney
I'm a non-binary queer genderqueer drag Xeeng who grew up on Fox Island and attended Gig Harbor High and Henderson Bay High School. I came out in 1992 while I was going to Henderson Bay, making me the first person to come out while still actively attending school in the Peninsula School District.
For the last 24 years I have lived in Seattle, where I am known for my dedication to the community, as Sister Angela Merici of the Sisters of the Mother House of Washington. We strive to serve the LGBTQIA2 community in the same way that women religious serve their communities of faith.
Last year I moved back to Fox Island to help my mother, following the death of her husband. In moving back, I recognized that not a lot has changed for queer youth in Gig Harbor. As a founding charter board member of Pride Gig Harbor, I had the honor of using FIUCC for the Transgender Day of Remembrance as our first official event, and am working to change the attitude Gig Harbor presents to the queer community.
In the last year I have fallen in love with FIUCC and am PROUD to call it my church.
