As Christ’s community, we respond with our time and financial resources in support of the work of the Church - in our local area, our country, and areas of need around the world. Our ministry seeks nurture, sustenance, equality, and fairness for all God’s people, and for the planet on which we live.

One of the main focuses of our church is the mission at the Northwest Detention Center, where we offer snacks, drinks, games, and toys to brighten the day of those who have made a visit to family or friends of immigrants in detention. We gather at the Detention Center at 1 PM on the first Sunday of every month. We offer hugs, smiles, and prayers to lighten burdens and make what is often a long trip home a bit easier. First-time volunteers are welcome, and everyone is welcome regardless of age. Join us! Call the Church Office (253-549-2420) for more details.

Orphans Africa

Oprhans Africa’s mission is to “Educate Orphans in Africa”. Instead of creating schools that will need endless support from charity, our unique approach is to help build self-sustaining schools. Most of the support (40%) to educate the orphans comes from Africa and not the West! After serving the orphan children with education, housing, food, medical insurance, and love. The addition of libraries, medical insurance for healthcare, computer laboratories, and science laboratories increase the quality of education that is needed to assist orphan children out of a life of poverty. Our schools are still under development and need your support. Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” and “Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice.” Join us in helping the most vulnerable kids out of extreme poverty.

Every month FIUCC members donate over $500 worth of groceries to the Key Peninsula Food Bank! During this time of year we propose people consider soups as an extra donation, although all donations are appreciated.

One Great Hour of Sharing

From UCC.org “One Great Hour of Sharing, as part of Our Churches Wider Mission, is the special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that carries God’s message of love and hope to people in crisis. The UCC works with international partners to provide sources of clean water, food, education and health care, small business micro-credit, advocacy and resettlement for refugees and displaced persons, and emergency relief and rehabilitation. OGHS also supports domestic and international ministries for disaster preparedness and response.”

Just Faith - Lenten Series

Longing for a safe place to talk about social issues through the lens of your Christian faith? Just Faith is an inspiring and energizing program that engages participants in Jesus's life and witness and our Gospel call to love and serve others. In community with other participants, you’ll share a spiritual journey of faith and compassion that is life-giving. For our 2020 Lenten Series the theme was aligned with our all church retreat. Our focus was Spirit-led Activism: Transforming a World in Crisis. We explored our spiritual gifts so that we bring a depth to our work in the world.

Feast for the Soul

Feast for the Soul is a 40 day observance of a personal spiritual practice of stillness. We invite our congregation to practice 40 minutes of spiritual practice for each of the forty days, which could include meditation, prayer, silent walking, yoga, or anything that helps bring the individual to a period of stillness in their daily life. See feastforthesoul.org for more information.
